The PBR is the River Patrol Boat (PBR), which is one of the most important river combat vessels of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
The PB patrol boat is considered to be the successor to the PCF. The first two PB Mk I were built by Sewart Seacraft in 1972 and delivered in 1973. Subsequently, another PB Mk III design was tested in competition with the PB Mk I to meet the U.S. Navy's requirements for a multi-mission offshore warship. The PB Mk III won, with 17 built by Patterson Shipyards in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Like the PCF, the PB was designed from oil rig work vessels in the Gulf of Mexico. The ship's wheel well is tilted to starboard to provide maximum weapons space and can be armed with a variety of weapons, including Penguin Mk 2 anti-ship missiles, mines, torpedoes or minesweepers; The engines were silent to enable the boat to be used for covert operations. The PB Mk II design was not mass-built.
